Welcome to week 6 of our Project Plan A: Plant planet

In our recent blog post, I provided an in-depth exploration of the development of our final prototypes. In this blog, we reveal our finished diegetic prototypes/ Provo-types/ prototypes via pictures taken during photoshoots. We also reveal our design strategy for exhibiting the artifacts for the upcoming graduate exhibition, our revised research, and the reformed story that we came up with for our artifacts and present the concept in its final form this week. Our team goal this week was to get everything ready and running for the upcoming graduate show where we will be able to display and discuss our work with the guests and visitors.

--- Adapt, Improvise, Overcome---

This marks the culmination of our design phase as we navigate the final week. As we approach the imminent exhibition, our focus sharpens on how best to transform our conceptual prototypes into meaningful future artifacts and showcase our work in a way that ensures its clarity within the confined space of our exhibition booth. As each team was assigned a certain amount of space for the exhibition, we had to factor in those limitations as we were designing when it came to the size of each artifact.

We meticulously measured our booth space—a snug corner that beckons creativity. To avoid overcrowding, we strategically arranged our items. Through modeling and demonstrations, we presented the necessary device support, utilizing a shelf to house the mini greenhouse and shrine, while another table showcased the wearable device. We wanted to design the space in a way that highlights each prototype as well as arrange it to feel as though they are well-connected and a part of the same display. Each team member refined the design items, addressing nuances for a polished outcome.

--- Background and Story---

Background:

To immerse ourselves in the narrative and context of speculative design, we tested and experienced our creations within the story's backdrop. Personally donning a plant oxygen supply device, I engaged and performed in various venues, recording the experience. This experiential journey brought the story to life, envisioning a world in ruins and seeking signs of plant life in the remaining structures. We contemplate shooting a short film to vividly convey this experience to our audience.

Additionally, we conducted a high-fidelity photoshoot to capture the essence of our final product.

--Reflection--

Through our final design, we boldly and sensibly express the symbiotic relationship between humans and plants using speculative design. The recurring climate crisis issues demand our attention, yet finding solutions remains elusive. Speculative design acts as a catalyst, providing an opportunity to imagine and express the future, urging us to reimagine our connection with plants.

Our design serves as a reflection on the current state of the planet, encouraging viewers to contemplate the consequences of a world devoid of greenery and breathable air.
